This was our first of two trips to Homewood High School this summer, and by the looks of the campers this week Homewood, Alabama is full of basketball talent. With a completely sold out camp, camp director AJ Holland, Homewood head coach Tim Shepler, and staff had their hands full, helping each player get at least 1% better every day. All of our campers put in a ton of hard work this week so we can't wait to see what our camp in July holds for us.
Throughout this week, the NIKE Boys Basketball Camp at Homewood High School had exciting and great moments. Championship Friday was nothing less than inspirational for all the staffers and campers. That morning, the campers walked into the gym with an extra bounce in their step. Anyone could notice the focused and determined look in the eyes of the campers. We started off the day with living by numbers. Next we quickly jumped into our individual skills stations for a quick review. Each day the campers rotated between 3 different skill stations. Individual skills, 3on3, and video session gives helps teach all parts of the game to the campers.
Now its championship time! The first championship round was the 5on5 games. The NBA and college division championships was balanced throughout the week. Next was our Living By Numbers Championships. With so many returning campers, there was a lot of anticipation of who will be selected. Living by Numbers (LBN) program online has been extremely beneficial to most of the campers. Lastly the crowd favorite was 3on3 Cut Throat Championship. All week the campers have been earning points and learning different ways to be successful with their teams. Coaches, players, and parents enjoyed the intensity during the 3on3 games.
Championship Friday ended with our NIKE Awards Ceremony. All the campers received camps T-shirts, players evaluations, and various fun prizes. Below is the list of LBN winners and the photos of the individual winners. We are sad the camp ended today, but we are more excited about the improvement of all the campers. See you in July Homewood!

This week at Marietta High School was by far one of the most talented camps we have had yet. Each morning the campers arrived early anxiously awaiting to enter the gym to improve their Living By Number scores from the day before, and to begin practicing the new drills they would be competing in that day. It was clear to all of the coaches that each and every camper was there to improve their game. They listened, they practiced, they learned. They truly took the favorite quote from the week, "The more you bleed in practice, the less you bleed in war" to heart. They ran, they perspired, they got better 1% each day. After an anonymous vote at the end of the week, it came out to be that this week has been one of the top camps yet. We have to thank our incredibly staffed camp from this week, for they helped these young players keep their heads up high, and foresee the bright future they all have with basketball as long as they keep working hard like they did at camp. Parents be proud of your young athletes, and be proud of yourselves for helping them and allowing them to grow into the young children they are!

Something VERY exciting happened this week at Marietta. Sedrick Sweat broke the XBOX Living by Number drill with a score of 5. The record has been stuck at 4.75 for the past two years, but Sedrick just raised the bar. Keep an eye out because we will be posting this video on here and our youtube channel within the next few days!

NIKE Basketball Camp: Championship Friday at Currey Ingram Academy

Drew Maddux truly knows how to run an A+ basketball camp. His attention to detail, organization, and overall management is what helps his camps run so smooth allowing for each camper to feel as if they are receiving one-on-one training. While the camp is large, the focus on the campers makes it feel small and personal. With this incredible combination of all aspects of the camp, it is surely a sell out. The staff this week truly felt and believed that each and every camper left the gym on Friday having improved in more than one skill area. Whether that was dribbling, shooting, passing, defense, or overall character, the coaches were able to judge that they did their jobs and they did it well because the confidence in their campers was through the roof on Championship Friday. We are excited to come back next year and see many of these returning campers!

This is the first year that Elite Hoops has joined forces with Alcoa High School to put together a NIKE Boys Basketball Camp. Director Micah Marsh once again took to the court of Alcoa High School after being their head coach for nine years, being named East Tennessee Coach of the Year in 2004, and taking the Tornadoes to one final four, two elite eights, and four sweet sixteens. This week players got to work under Marsh and his carefully selected staff to improve one at least 1% every day.
