Elite Hoops Playset: Hawks

Posted by Anonymous | Tuesday, December 13, 2016 | Category: | 0 comments

The Atlanta Hawks have a team full of good role players so putting in an equal opportunity offense benefits them greatly and helps them spread out the points keeping everybody happy. This complex play contains many different types of screens making them difficult to defend and forcing the defense to play honest throughout the entire possession.

Play begins with P1 dribbling to the wing and passing to P3 running off of a zipper cut. P1 then comes off of a baseline staggered screen and P4 recieves pass on the wing. P2 then sets a backscreen for P2. P2 immediately runs off of a flare screen set by P5 looking for a shot.

Elite Hoops Playset: Hornets

Posted by Anonymous | Tuesday, November 29, 2016 | Category: | 0 comments

NBA Eastern Conference team, Charlotte Hornets, have struggled to get over the hump but they still have some of the most explosive guards in the league. With Kemba Walker at your point you are able to set on ball screens and allow him to make plays. This can work for many teams that have a dynamic guard.

Play begins with a pick and roll with P4 and P1. If the roll or drive is not open, P5 immediately sets another on ball screen while P3 floats to the wing for an open jumpshot.

Elite Hoops Playset: GSW Pinch Post Flex

Posted by Anonymous | Wednesday, November 9, 2016 | Category: | 0 comments

As the Warriors continue to try to get a feel of playing with top notch players in the NBA, they have implemented some sets to allow all of them to play in their comfort zones. This pinch post flex action puts Steph, KD, and Klay in positions that have helped them become the big name players that they are and it is a quick action with many options.

Play begins with P1 feeding P5 at the high post and cutting to the wing. Next, the flex action occurs off of the weak side for P3 (KD) to have a post iso while P2 (Klay) then comes off of a downscreen for a 3 point shot.

Elite Hoops Playset: Moscow

Posted by Anonymous | Friday, October 21, 2016 | Category: | 0 comments

With the season coming around quickly coaches are looking for sets to use with their teams. One play that will be very useful is the set called 2 Twist. This play works great for teams that have true big men who really cannot space the floor with their jumpshots.

Play begins with P2 curling to the top of the key for the ball. P2 then dribbles off of a ball screen and passes to P3 who then looks for P5 on the roll. If not open the ball can be passed back to P1 on the opposite side for the same action.

Elite Hoops Playset: Spain

Posted by Anonymous | Wednesday, October 12, 2016 | Category: | 0 comments

Basketball may be played at different speeds and styles all over the world but many of the same sets are ran throughout the world. This was shown in the Rio Olympics when Spain's national team combined two common sets with an elevator screen and horns.

Set begins with P1 dribbling to the wing and P2 running through an elevator screen at the free throw line. The ball is passed to P2 and P4 and P5 then flip the screen to attack straight into horns. P2 then picks a ball screen to attack off of with every player on the court as an option.

Elite Hoops Playset: Netherlands Horns Floppy

Posted by Anonymous | Monday, September 26, 2016 | Category: | 0 comments

Big men often feel like they do not get enough touches throughout an offense which causes them not to play hard. A very common but effective play that can be used on many levels of basketball to help this is the horns set. This set causes bigs to be in constant movement while keeping the floor spaced out for drive opportunities. Also, the way the play is set up the bigs are the first option to score and even if they pass up a shot they get touches to keep them happy on the floor.

Play begins with P1 in a pick and roll with P5 while P3 cuts to the rim and P4 pops to the top of the key. The ball is then reversed to P3 with a dribble handoff. Lastly, P4 and P5 set pin down screens to allow P2 to have the option of which direction to pop out.

Elite Hoops Playset: Kentucky High Pick and Roll

Posted by Anonymous | Thursday, September 1, 2016 | Category: | 0 comments

When dealing with high level players, such as the ones that attend Kentucky, complex sets are not always necessary. Instead, coaches try to come up with plays that allow their players to make things happen and open up the floor. Spacing is always a big key in any set and ball screens are great to use for guards that have a good handle and can make plays.

This set begins with P2 curling a down screen to the wing and P3 sprinting to the strong side wing. P1 then flares off of a screen set by P4. The ball is then reversed through P4 to P1. Lastly, P4 follows the pass with an on ball screen while P1 has multiple options.

Elite Hoops Playset: 76ers SLOB

Posted by Anonymous | Wednesday, August 24, 2016 | Category: | 0 comments

The 76ers had a huge pick in this year's NBA draft with Ben Simmons and now they are looking to run sets that will help them turn their program around. Sideline out of bounds plays are times when you can catch an opponent sleeping and find players for open shots. Most successful plays have shots that end up at the top of the key or a lob over the top for an easy lay. The play used this summer league demonstates a way to get a shot late in the game when you need a 3 pointer.

In the play above P1 takes the ball out on the side while the rest of the players are in a soft line on the weak side. P2 curls to the corner off of a staggered screen set by P3 and P5. P3 then turns and comes off of a downscreen set by P5 for an open jumper at the top of the key.

NIKE Boys Basketball Camp: Championship Thursday at Smyrna Community Center

Posted by Anonymous | Saturday, August 6, 2016 | Category: | 0 comments

This week at our sold-out camp at Smyrna Community Center, the campers reminded us of how important it is to have FUN playing the game. Each and every day, they showed up with big smiles, bright energy, and an eagerness to enjoy themselves while improving immensely in their individual skill sets.

Throughout this week, the NIKE Boys Basketball Camp at Smyrna Community Center had exciting and great moments that all led up to Championship Friday which could only be described as lively and electrifying for all staffers and campers. That morning, the campers filed into the gym with an extra bounce in their step. Everyone's eyes reflected with excitement for the fun activities ahead. The first item on the agenda was the Living By Numbers competitions followed by a quick review in individual skills stations. Each day the campers rotated between 3 different skill stations. Individual skills, 3on3, and classroom session help teach all parts of the game to the campers, developing multi-faceted and knowledgeable players.

Now its championship time! The first championship round was the 5on5 games.  The NBA, College, and high school division championships were balanced throughout the week. Next was our Living By Numbers Championships. With so many returning campers, there was a lot of anticipation of who will be selected. The Living by Numbers (LBN) program online has been extremely beneficial to most of the campers. Lastly, the crowd favorite was 3on3 Cut Throat Championship. All week the campers have been earning points and learning different ways to be successful with their teams. Coaches, players, and parents enjoyed the intensity during the 3on3 games.

Championship Friday ended with our NIKE Awards Ceremony. All the campers received camp T-shirts, workbooks, player evaluations, and various fun prizes. Below is the list of LBN winners and the photos of the individual winners. While the end of camp is always bittersweet, we are so proud of the improvement and progress made by this group. Thanks for a great week, Smyrna Community Center!
