Elite Hoops Basketball Playset: Albany

Posted by Anonymous | Friday, March 21, 2014 | Category: | 0 comments

NCAA March Madness is underway and teams have been running plays to perfection. In the first round of play, Albany may not have had the talent to match up with Florida but some of their sets allowed them to compete and make it more of a matchup than what people expected. This set is simple but effective with numerous options to score and throw the defense off balance.

This play begins in a 1-4 set with the ball being entered into the high post. On the catch, P2 goes backdoor looking for a layup. Next P1 sets his man up and cuts to the ball side corner. P3 then curls around the top of the key off of a downscreen into a dribble handoff with P5 trying to turn the corner. Lastly, a staggered screen is set for P2 in the weak side corner looking for a jumpshot.

2014 NIKE Basketball Camps: Arkansas

Posted by Anonymous | Wednesday, March 19, 2014 | Category: | 0 comments

The 2014 Arkansas camp location will be in Little Rock for the second straight year, but trust me there is nothing "little" about the way we "rock" basketball there! Because of the success of the previous camps in Little Rock, Elite Hoops has decided to expand in the state of Arkansas and hold a camp in Hot Springs. Last summer the inaugural Elite Hoops NIKE Basketball Camp in Little Rock quickly sold out, so June and July this summer will be even better. Elite Hoops will open up the somewhere at Episcopal Collegiate June 9-13 and returning to the same location July 7-11. Lakeside High School is the newest addition to the NIKE camp locations and we are excited to see what Hot Springs has to offer July 14-18.

Micah Marsh, Episcopal Collegiate School Head Varsity Boys Basketball Coach, will be directing the 2014 Elite Hoops NIKE Boys Basketball Camp in Little Rock. Coach Marsh is no stranger to Arkansas basketball, he had a stellar basketball career at Arkansas State which lead to an induction in the school's Hall of Fame. As a coach, Marsh is now in the record books after becoming the 2014 State Champions in Arkansas. in 2013, Marsh led Episcopal Collegiate to the 2013 State Championship game for the first time in school history. Also the team finished with a 31-4 overall record. Campers, make sure you are well rested before camp so you can match Coach Marsh's high energy and passion for the game.

2014 NIKE Basketball Camps: Alabama

Posted by Anonymous | | Category: | 0 comments

Alabama may be known for the amazing football being played in the state but basketball is definite on the rise in the Heart of Dixie! Excitingly, NIKE and Elite Hoops are still singing and starting in "Sweet Home Alabama"! Over the past 6 years, Homewood High School has been Elite Hoops sweet home of Alabama. Each year the Homewood basketball camp sells out. After the successful turnout last year, Elite Hoops will once again host a coed camp at Vestavia Hills, as well as two all boys camps at Homewood. The 2014 NIKE Basketball Camp season will start at Vestavia Hills May 27-30. June 23-27 and July 21-25 are the dates of the Homewood High School camps in Alabama.

Lee Miller and A.J. Holland will be directing camps in Alabama this summer. Also, each high school head coach will be assisting Elite Hoops. Miller will be at Homewood High School. Head Coach Tim Shepler of Homewood High School is no stranger to leading his teams to glory and co-directing NIKE camps. This will be his 6 consecutive year partnering with NIKE Basketball and Elite Hoops.

At the Vestavia Hills location, Miller will use the help of Vestavia Hills Varsity Boys Head Coach George Hatchett, and Homewood Varsity Girls Head Coach Jovanka Ward. Coach Hatchett's familiarity with the school and basketball program will make sure every camper receives the Vestavia Hills treatment. Coach Ward of Homewood understands Alabama basketball extremely well. Coaching all levels of basketball from Homewood Middle School to Alabama A&M University, Ward will happily lend us her expertise this summer.

Elite Hoops Basketball Playset: Alabama

Posted by Anonymous | Friday, March 14, 2014 | Category: | 0 comments

The SEC tournament is currently underway and coaches are pulling out their best sets. Alabama has figured out a way to utilize their small personel by running this set against LSU. In order for this play to work to perfection, your guards need to be able to handle the ball and your 4man needs to be able to shoot from the perimeter. If guards are aggressive enough, they may be able to turn the corner and get to the rim for a layup or draw a foul.

"Alabama" begins with P1 dribbling off of the staggered ball screen set by P5 and P4. P5 instantly dives to the rim looking for a drop off pass while P4 continues to set a down screen for P2 in the corner. If P2 is not open for the shot, P4 follows with a ball screen from the baseline. After the pick and pop action occurs, P1 and P5 set a staggered screen for P3 in the weak side corner to finish the play.

2014 NIKE Boys Basketball Camp: Cumming

Posted by Anonymous | | Category: | 0 comments

If the game of basketball had a mascot, it would be a pine tree. Why you ask? The history of basketball proves that pine wood played a major role in the development of the great sport. In the beginning, pine wood was commonly used for basketball courts and bleachers. The phrase "ride the pine" for players that did not get a chance to play, originated from the pine wood made benches. Now different wood and materials are used for courts and seating, but Elite Hoops decided to keep the pine wood tradition alive. This summer, the 5th annual NIKE Basketball Camp will be in Cumming, Ga at Piney Grove Middle School. The coincidentally named middle school has sold out each of the previous 4 summers. Camp will have a combination of old school work ethic with a new school style.

Elite Hoops own Lee Miller will be hosting the Cumming NIKE Basketball Camp in June. Outside of Miller's great work with Elite Hoops, his resume speaks volumes. Miller has directed/worked camps including the University of Georgia, Duke University, NBA Complete Player Camp, and Pete Newell's Big Man Camp in Las Vegas. If you think you can keep up, come to Piney Grove Middle School this summer.

The Atlanta Metro area is extremely valuable and important to Elite Hoops. Since 2009, Elite Hoops have hosted over 20 camps in the metro area alone. The city of Marietta is located just north of Atlanta, and 3 camps will be held there this summer. Each facility has two full size gymnasium with state of the art features. It will be a great summer in Marietta!
