Elite Hoops Playset: Boston/UCLA

Posted by Anonymous | Monday, January 16, 2017 | Category: | 0 comments

In the second half against the Houston Rockets, the Celtics made the decision that they wanted to make the opposing 3 man have to defend a ball screen which is not done very often. Because this is an action that is not used often, players are not comfortable defending it and sometimes do not even know exactly how to defend this action. One challenge of this play is having a strong enough PG to be able to handle the pressure of a possible trap are strong defensive wing.

Play begins with P2 running off of a UCLA cut while P1 dribbles to the wing. P3 then immediately sets a ball screen on P1 looking for the roll pass from P5. If not open, P4 sets a down screen for P2 curling for a jumper.

Elite Hoops Basketball Drill: Holland Special

Posted by Anonymous | | Category: | 0 comments

This is a ankle-breaking spin!  It's a move that takes lots of practice, but once you get it you will score at ease in the paint. I would recommend the athlete to practice each move separate. First the behind the back, then the spin. Be sure to click the video below to see the Holland Special in action.

The player is attacking the rim going behind the back, then right into a low and quick spin move toward the rim.

Elite Hoops Skills and Drills: Pro-Hop

Posted by Anonymous | Tuesday, January 10, 2017 | Category: | 0 comments

The Pro-Hop is one of my favorite moves to use when finishing  at the rim. This move works great when the defender is lounging for the ball attempting to get a steal. Check out the video below.

The player starts by attacking the rim, jumping off of two feet changing their course of direction while in the air. It is important to land on both feet when finishing the lay-up, so it is clear that the player isn't taking extra steps.

Elite Hoops Skills and Drills: Floaters

Posted by Anonymous | Thursday, January 5, 2017 | Category: | 0 comments

The floater is one of the most under taught skills in the game. It is great for finishing over taller players in the paint. Derrick Rose is a great player to watch when learning the floater. He does a great job of having great body control. Be sure to click the video below to watch the floater in action.

The player in attacking the rim full speed then goes up into a 1- handed shot, leaving their hand in a high-five motion. The player can jump off one or both feet.

Elite Hoops Playset: 2-3 Zone Overload

Posted by Anonymous | | Category: | 0 comments

In youth basketball one of the main defenses played is the 2-3 zone. There are many ways to attack this defense but this set below contains an overload action to force the bottom defender to make a decision on who to guard. This play is very effective when inside players are able to stretch the floor and shoot the 3.

Play begins with P1 dribbling away from the overloaded block. P3 pops straight up the lane line to receive a pass while P4 pops out to the wing. P5 then sets a screen for P2 cutting to the corner. The ball is reversed around the perimeter to P2 in the overloaded corner for an open 3 pointer.
