The exciting week of NIKE Basketball Camp at Piney Grove Middle School which included so much hard work concluded with an even more exciting Championship Friday! Players knew that they would have to perform at their highest level to meet the expectation of parents, friends and family in attendance, and this hard working group of campers did not let themselves or their families down!
The morning started out with players receiving their NIKE camp t-shirts and then were led by the coaching staff in stationary stretching and floor length open up, where the players got their minds and bodies warmed up for the skills stations to follow. After warming up, the players headed into 7 of their favorite and most challenging Skills Stations for the last time. The campers all worked extremely hard during Skills Stations and were reminded that "hard work brings prosperity" as they completed stations! Our goal for players during the week is to get 1% better each day. Although that may not seem like much, if each player can commit to getting 1% better each day they step on the floor, then they will become much better players.
Next, players participated in their 5 on 5 Championship games. Taking home the championship this week were the Heat, of the NBA division, UGA, of the College Division, and South Forsyth, of the High School Division. Each of these games were very competitive and the players showed great improvement over the week. Great job guys!
Living by Numbers Championships followed the exciting 5 on 5 match-ups. Players from each division competed in the Mikan Drill, Figure 8 No Dribble, Cone Jumpers, and Hot Shot for NIKE prizes! You can check-out the winning players below!
Our 3on3 Cut Throat competition was next and the improvement from Monday to Friday was immense. With our strict rules of-calling out your team score, catching in triple threat, making at least 3 passes, screening or cutting after every pass, only having 3 dribbles per catch and yelling "ball, deny or help" on defense-the players showed how they can play team basketball if they work at it.
We ended camp with our Awards Ceremony. The players listed below are our Living by Numbers Champions and Individual Award Winners for the NIKE Elite Hoops Basketball Camp at Piney Grove Middle School. For 6 straight years, we have sold out our NIKE Boys Basketball Camp at Blessed Trinity and for 6 straight years we have had amazing energy and excitement throughout Championship Friday. With 100 campers and 16 staffers, this camp was one of the most energetic and hard working groups we have ever had at our NIKE Basketball Camps. The improvement of each camper from Day 1 to Day 5 was very impressive and based upon the effort that was given on Friday, we hope that each camper continues to improve their game by using our LivingByNumbers online training program. To see each campers Living By Numbers scores from the week click HERE.
We had some Living by Number Record Breakers this week. Players that beat All-Time or Divisional records are below along with their record breaking video and scores.
Adam Fenlon-All-Time Power Layup Record-21
We started Championship Friday with a quick stationary stretch and our floor length open up drills. We soon followed with our 5on5 semifinals and championships. After a brief break, we put campers through their final set of Skill Stations, where each coach "tested" them with one of the drills they had performed at that station during the week. After an hour of Skills Stations, the top 3 players in 4 of our Living By Numbers drills competed in the LBN Championships for some Nike prizes. Our final event of the day, was the 3on3 Cut Throat Championships. Players competed all week long for a chance to play on the Championship 3on3 goals and many players, their effort really paid off.
We ended camp with our Awards Ceremony. Championship Friday was an exciting day for all NIKE Camp Coaches and players at Oconee County High School! Players knew that they would have to perform at their highest level to meet the expectation of parents, friends and family in attendance, and this hard working group of campers did not let themselves or their families down!

We had an AMAZING week at the 4th annual NIKE Boys Basketball Camp at Greater Atlanta Christian. For the 3rd straight year, this camp sold out with 100 players and those players brought an unbelievable amount of energy, effort and sportsmanship on Friday.
After players checked in, we warmed them up with a full court "Floor Length Open Up" drill to get their juices flowing and to get them sweating. Right after, every camper competed in their final 5on5 game, which was the semifinals for each division. Winning teams advanced to the 5on5 Championship and we saw some incredible finishes, especially in the college division.
Next, players spent 50 minutes running through their Skill Stations for the final time this week. On Championship, players are "tested" in their skill stations to see if they can perform all of the drills they learned during the week.
After Skills Stations, the top three scorers in each division in Mikan, Figure 8, Cone Layups and Hot Shot competed in the Living By Numbers (LBN) Championships. LBN winners are listed below.
Our 3on3 Cut Throat competition was the final event of the day and the improvement from Monday to Friday was immense. With our strict rules of calling out your team score, catching in triple threat, making at least 3 passes, screening or cutting after every pass, only having 2 dribbles per catch and yelling "ball, deny or help" on defense, the players showed how far they come in playing TEAM basketball

Expectations for Championship Friday are always high and fortunately for the NIKE Camp Coaches who were working and for the parents, friends and family in attendance, this group of 58 campers did not disappoint.
The morning started out with Coach Manfredi and Coach Bostic leading the camp in stationary stretch and floor length open up. A quick camp picture was taken and then we headed to our gauntlet of Skills Stations for the last time. The campers all worked extremely hard during Skills Stations and were reminded, "That if you don't know where you are going, how will you know when you get there." Our goal for players during the week is to get 1% better each day. Although that may not seem like much, if each player can commit to getting 1% better each day they step on the floor, then they will become much better players.
Next, players participated in their final Living by Numbers contest-Hot Shot. In Hot Shot, players have one minute to score as many points as they can from certain spots on the floor. As we mentioned, Championship Friday is known for fantastic finishes and seeing a camper hit a half court shot during Hot Shots only fueled the fire for a great final day of camp.
Our 3on3 Cut Throat competition was next and the improvement from Tuesday to Friday was immense. With our strict rules of-calling out your team score, catching in triple threat, making at least 3 passes, screening or cutting after every pass, only having 2 dribbles per catch and yelling "ball, deny or help" on defense-the players showed how they can play team basketball if they work at it.

Looking back on my playing and coaching career so many great
memories come to mind. I think
back at all the time, sweat, tears, blood, and work that I put into this
game. I think about how many times
I have ran that 94’ length or 50’ width.
Some people may question why we do what we do. We may even question ourselves. I think about the conditioning that I had to do to reach the
top level. As I was standing on
the baseline about to run my last 20 in 20 (20 suicides in 20 minutes), and
every part of my body is screaming in pain, and I thought to myself, “why do I
put myself through this pain?”
But then it comes from within; we do this because we love the game. We want to be the best we can be, and
to reach that level you have to work.
Basketball has been one of the most influential things in my
life. I first started playing
organized basketball in the 2nd grade. However, basketball was a part of my life before that. I would dribble whenever I saw a
basketball. Being from the north,
we could not play outside usually after the month of October. I used to ask my parents to move the
kitchen table in the winter so I could dribble and work on my ball handling
indoors. I would also go down to
the garage and turn off the lights so I could dribble in the dark. I figured out at a young age that
basketball was what I wanted in the future. I spent a lot of time working on my game. I missed a lot of dances and events
with friends for practice and AAU tournaments. People used to think I was crazy always going from one gym
to the next. But I had goals and
dreams and had full intentions on reaching them; I knew at a young age, that I
loved this game.
Basketball has taken me places that a lot of people never
get to in a lifetime. I am
thankful every day for the opportunities basketball has given me. Basketball is always what kept me
going. Basketball earned me a full
scholarship for 4 years to Niagara University. After playing college ball, I was able to play
professionally overseas for a year in Germany. Due to injury, I had to give up my playing career,
however I could not see my life without basketball. Since I could no longer play, I got into college
coaching. From there, basketball
took me to New Mexico where I started my first year of collegiate coaching and
worked on my Master’s Degree.
Because of basketball, I was able to get my Bachelor’s and Master’s
Degree fully paid for. It is a
blessing to be 26, and not have to pay back student loans.
After 3 years of college coaching, I got this opportunity to
work for Elite Hoops Basketball.
It was a tough decision to get out of the college coaching world, but I
made the decision to try something new.
It has only been a week, but working for Elite has brought back a
different love of the game for me.
It has brought back the fundamentals and all the things that have gotten
me to the point where I am today.
I love having the opportunity to help the youth become better
players. I am extremely fulfilled
after every workout.
Basketball is not just a game to me; it’s a lifestyle. Basketball has taken me all over the
world. It has helped to keep me
through school and focus on my studies.
It has taught me the meaning of discipline, hard work, effort, loyalty,
teamwork, and perseverance (and the list could go on). I am fortunate enough to say that
I love what I do and I enjoy going to work. I have been able to discover myself through basketball. It has helped shape me into the person
I am today. I have learned so much
from the game, and now it’s my turn to give it back.

Is Your Will Greater Than Your Skill?

Each time I step on the floor and have an opportunity to work with players and help develop their skill sets, I work as hard as I possibly can. My job is to get the most out of each player's skill development each time they set foot on the court. I have no doubts that if players train with me and the rest of the Elite Hoops staff, their game will see significant improvement. But as important as SKILL is in the game of basketball, it is actually the 2nd most important attribute of a player. Unfortunately, the most important attribute is something that I cannot help you with-Your Will.
I have coached, trained, and watched 1000s of players across the southeast over the past 8 years and I have noticed that very few players' WILL is Greater Than Their SKILL. Don't get me wrong, having a great skill set can take you a long way, but having the WILL can take you farther than any skill set you get along the way.
When Luke Adams was two years old, his father Mark, a longtime basketball coach, called for his son to follow him on his way out the door. Mark couldn't get his son's attention at all that day. After taking Luke to a doctor, his parents realized he was severely hearing impaired. After some testing, doctors told his parents that he would never read beyond a 2nd grade level.
Luke, now 5'9'' and 150lbs, is a walk-on at Texas Tech. He has started 3 games this season for the Red Raiders as a freshman and is averaging close to 15 minutes per game. What happened to Luke along the way? His WILL was Greater than his SKILL.
Imagine watching the Lion King once a week with your father from the time you are a newborn. Then, at the age of 3, your father passes away. Imagine that your uncle comes along and helps fill that void in your life for the next 15 years. He is there for you everyday supporting you in every way he can. Over the years, you become a high school basketball star who is being recruited by almost every school. In your senior season, on the day you are going to sign a national letter of intent to play at the University of Kentucky, that same uncle passes away. Now, it's 8 months later and right before Christmas, your mother becomes hospitalized. While she is in the hospital you score 15 points and grab 7 boards in a win for your team.
The person who went through all of this was Michael Kidd-Gilchrist. Why was Michael Kidd-Gilchrist able to perform at such a high level throughout his life even when all of these obstacles came along? Because His WILL was Greater than his SKILL.
Point Guards who are 6'3'' and lead their team to a 32-1 record and a California State Championship typically get some Division 1 offers. This player didn't. Point Guards who can beat most of their counterparts off the dribble on any given possession get some Division 1 offers. This player didn't. Point Guards who can pass and dribble as well as Nash, Rondo, and Pistol Pete would usually receive an offer from a a Division 1 school whose campus is right across the street. This player didn't.
Point Guards who have a Division 1 Ivy League assistant coach tell their high school coach during the summer after their junior year, "I think he's a Division III player." typically do not play Division 1. He did.
College Point Guards who don't get drafted in the NBA Draft, typically don't make an NBA roster. He did. Point Guards who get waived by 2 NBA teams and play for 4 D-League teams don't score 38 against the Lakers. He did.

All three of these players have tremendous skill sets and wouldn't be playing at the level that they are now without them. That being said, I guarantee that there are players with similar skill sets to the three players mentioned above who have gone through similar obstacles in their lives, but they don't have the WILL to make it. These players DID.
