NKE BOYS St. Francis Championship Friday

Posted by Anonymous | Monday, June 13, 2016 | Category: | 0 comments

This week at our sold-out camp at St. Francis High School, the campers reminded us of how important it is to have FUN playing the game. Each and every day, they showed up with big smiles, bright energy, and an eagerness to enjoy themselves while improving immensely in their individual skill sets.

Throughout this week, the NIKE Boys Basketball Camp at St. Francis had exciting and great moments that all led up to Championship Friday which could only be described as lively and electrifying for all staffers and campers. That morning, the campers filed into the gym with an extra bounce in their step. Everyone's eyes reflected with excitement for the fun activities ahead. The first item on the agenda was the Living By Numbers competitions followed by a quick review in individual skills stations. Each day the campers rotated between 3 different skill stations. Individual skills, 3on3, and classroom session help teach all parts of the game to the campers, developing multi-faceted and knowledgeable players.

Now its championship time! The first championship round was the 5on5 games.  The  College and high school division championships were balanced throughout the week. Next was our Living By Numbers Championships. With so many returning campers, there was a lot of anticipation of who will be selected. The Living by Numbers (LBN) program online has been extremely beneficial to most of the campers. Lastly, the crowd favorite was 3on3 Cut Throat Championship. All week the campers have been earning points and learning different ways to be successful with their teams. Coaches, players, and parents enjoyed the intensity during the 3on3 games.

Championship Friday ended with our NIKE Awards Ceremony. All the campers received camp T-shirts, workbooks, player evaluations, and various fun prizes. Below is the list of LBN winners and the photos of the individual winners. While the end of camp is always bittersweet, we are so proud of the improvement and progress made by this group. Thanks for a great week, St. Francis!

NIKE Boys Basketball Camp: Championship Friday at Kedron Fieldhouse

Posted by Anonymous | Sunday, June 5, 2016 | Category: | 0 comments

This week has been one exciting week at our  NIKE camp at Kedron Fieldhouse and Aquatic Center. Each day the campers showed up eager to start and develop their game with our awesome coaches. That Monday morning, the campers came into the gym with excitement on their faces and ready to do drills. But, they all ended up learning in the classrooms along with the drills created by our coaches. With the combination of the two the campers were to become successful. By the end of the camp, each camper could say their skills improved incredibly as the week continued on.

Throughout this week, the NIKE Boys Basketball Camp at Kedron Fieldhouse has been full of passion and intensity. The coaches also made it fun for the campers so they can still stay in tune with the camp. Coaches had their own intense 3 on 3 games and half court shot competition for the campers entertainment. Out of all the drills everyone seemed excited for the Living By Numbers competitions; which is a 3on3 games that gives the campers to truly show their skills. Living By Numbers stats are collected and tallied so campers can be informed of who has the top stats.

Championship Friday was a success! We had championship competitions for all the players who had the top stats for all drills and games. The competitions were incredible; we even had a camper who shattered a Nike Camp Record.  The last competition before the awards Ceremony was the 3on3 Cut Throat Championship and the teams were going at each other. Nothing but competition from the start of the clock to the sound of that buzzer. Our NIKE Awards Ceremony concluded the camp and each player was provided with awesome prizes. All the campers received workbooks, player evaluations, and various fun prizes. But our winners of the competitions and the awards received a little extra: a basketball signed by the coaches, a Nike bag, and etc.

Below is the list of LBN winners and individual winners.

Elite Hoops Playset: Cavs

Posted by Anonymous | Wednesday, May 11, 2016 | Category: | 0 comments

Kevin Love had a great series against the Hawks this year and stepped into a major role for the team. Part of the reason he was trusted to carry some weight was because of how well he was shooting the ball. In game 4 of the playoffs the Hawks ran this set below to free up their stretch 4 man for a wide open 3 point attempt.

The ball starts with P1 on the wing and P2 running off of a UCLA cut. P3 then slips a ball screen and pops to the corner while P2 sprints away from the ball. P2 and P5 then set a gate screen for P4 (Kevin Love) popping out to the 3 point line.

Elite Hoops Playset: Pacers

Posted by Anonymous | Monday, April 18, 2016 | Category: | 0 comments

With the playoffs underway, coaches have pulled out their best stuff in attempt to get easy points. The Indiana Pacers got a great shot off with this side out of bounds play that is simple but effective. Coaches at all levels can use this to free up shooters in crunch time.

This play begins with P3 taking the ball out from the side and the rest of the players in a straight line on the free throw line. P2 cuts over the top to the corner while P1 curls all the way around under the basket. P4 and P5 then turn and set a staggered screen for P1 for a 3 pointer.

March Madness Playset: Virginia

Posted by Anonymous | Wednesday, March 23, 2016 | Category: | 0 comments

March Madness has been wild this year and coaches are using their best stuff at the right time. With Virginia convincingly winning, they have experimented with a number of different plays that may be useful and come through in the clutch of a big game. Below is a set that has many scoring options and is simple for the players to execute.

This play begins in a 4 out set with P1 passing to P2 and setting a downscreen for the post player. P2 then passes to P5 and sprints off of a back screen set by P1. If not open P5 swings the ball to P3 on the wing and screens the screener for a 3 point look.

Elite Hoops Playset: Hawks

Posted by Anonymous | Thursday, January 28, 2016 | Category: | 0 comments

The Atlanta Hawks have finally built their program back up and put together a team that plays well together. The former Spurs assistant coach has changed the way the players approach the game and have them playing as a unit. Plays such as the one below allow everybody to feel involved and is not too structured which makes players feel like they aren't robots.

This set starts with a ball screen set on the wing by P3. P5 then slips a ballscreen for P1 while P3 comes off of a flare screen. If not open a staggered screen is set by P3 and P4 for P2 curling around the 3 point line looking for a shot.

Elite Hoops Playset: Oklahoma

Posted by Anonymous | Wednesday, January 13, 2016 | Category: | 0 comments

Oklahoma has one of the best teams they have had in the history of the program and Buddy Hield is one of the main reasons why this team is successful. Lon Kruger has recognized this and has designed plays to free up his star player when he gets hot. This play is quick but affective and easy for teams of all ages to run.

This play begins with P1 passing to the wing and cutting to the strong side corner. The ball is immediately swung around the perimeter to P3 and P5 fakes the ball screen. P3 then attacks baseline while P2 sprints off of a staggered screen set by P4 and P5 for a shot.

Elite Hoops Playset: Spurs

Posted by Anonymous | Tuesday, January 5, 2016 | Category: | 0 comments

The San Antonio Spurs players may be 75 years old but the great Coach Popovich puts them in sets that help them finish in the top 3 of the Western Conference every year. With veteran players such as Duncan, Ginobili, and Parker and a superstar in Kawhi Leonard, the Spurs have no issues with the timing and angle of plays to get themselves open shots. Below is a quick hitter they run that can open up a player for layups and 3s.

This play begins with P1 passing the ball to P3 on the wing and P2 running off of a down screen from P5. P1 then receives a handoff from P3. While P1 attacks the rim P5 rescreens P2 looking for a corner 3. At that same moment P4 screens away for P3 flashing to the top.

Elite Hoops Playset: Izzo SLOB

Posted by Anonymous | Tuesday, December 15, 2015 | Category: | 0 comments

Tom Izzo has been at Michigan St running a successful program for many years. One of the reasons for this is that every possession is looked at as critical and even when the ball is taken out of bounds they are looking for quick hitters and easy buckets. This SLOB gives Mich St layup, 3pt, and slip options that most plays do not. Any mistake made by the defense can turn into an easy two points.

This SLOB begins with P2 passing to P1 flashing towards half court. P2 then sprints off of a backscreen set by P3 while P1 dribbles to the opposite wing looking to make the post feed. P3 immediately cuts between the gate screen set by the post players looking for an open 3. If defended well, P4 or P5 can slip and look for a layup.

Elite Hoops Playset: Box STS

Posted by Anonymous | Tuesday, December 1, 2015 | Category: | 0 comments

Superstars like Westbrook and Durant may not need many plays drawn up to help their team scoring wise but it always helps to have a play or two to get them going. This play drawn up by Billy Donovan contains some screening the screener action and usually ends up with an open 3 pointer for Kevin Durant. If a switch occurs there will be a mismatch which Durant will win 95% of the time.

"Box STS" begins in a box set. P1 feeds the high post and runs off of a flare screen by P4. While P2 clears to the opposite corner the ball is reversed through P4 to P1. P3 then sets a backscreen for P5 and P4 follows with a downscreen for P3 looking for the open shot.

Elite Hoops Playset: Wheel Motion

Posted by Anonymous | Wednesday, November 18, 2015 | Category: | 0 comments

"Wheel Motion" is a play used by the Cleveland Cavs at times when they are searching for an open 3 point shot. It frees up players such as JR Smith, Mo Williams and Kyrie Irving to get to a spot where they can set their feet and knock down an open 3. It is a more complex play that requires great timing and solid screens so be aware of who is on the court when running this set.

"Wheel Motion" begins with P1 passing to P2 and cutting to the weak side block. P5 then pops out for a catch and performs a dribble handoff with P3 on the right wing. P1 then clears to the strong side corner and P5 spins back around to set a flare screen for P3 looking for a catch and shoot 3 pointers.

Elite Hoops Playset: Delay

Posted by Anonymous | Wednesday, November 11, 2015 | Category: | 0 comments

Golden State has started off the season on a tear! Majority of it is because of MVP Stephen Curry and having a great defensive team with players that can guard multiple positions but plays like the one below are great for such a versatile team. Skilled players are able to create for teammates and find open shots when penetrating into the paint.

"Delay" begins with P1 dribbling to the wing and passing to P5 at the top of the key. P1 and P4 then set down screens in the corners. P3 then comes off of a dribble handoff trying to get to the paint and create shots for players spotted up on the wings.

Elite Hoops Playset: Backscreens

Posted by Anonymous | Friday, October 23, 2015 | Category: | 0 comments

Now that players have become more versatile, specifically in the post spots, teams have been able to add more screens and backcuts to their offenses. This playset is great for a team that is able to pass the ball at a high level under pressure.

This play begins with P1 passing to P4 and cutting to the basket. P4 then has a dribble handoff with P2. Next, P2 dribbles off of a ball screen and P1 immediately sets a backscreen for P5 rolling to the basket. If the layup is not open P3 is sliding to the corner spotted up for a 3.

Elite Hoops Playset: Butler

Posted by Anonymous | Friday, October 16, 2015 | Category: | 0 comments

Butler is known for taking teams without the most talent very far in the post season and plays like this explains why they have been so successful. Lots of movement away from the ball containing awkward angled screens make any team difficult to defend because teams are not used to having to guard these actions. See below one of the plays used by Butler to help them score throughout games.

Play starts with P1 dribbling to the wing and passing to P4 flashing to the weak side elbow to receive a pass. P2 and P3 sprint to the opposite corners then P3 sets a flare screen for P1 looking for an open 3 point shot. If not open, P1 will look to drive baseline or possibly pass to P5 posting in the paint.

Elite Hoops Playset: Hawks

Posted by Anonymous | Monday, October 5, 2015 | Category: | 0 comments

This play ran by the Hawks to free up shooters like John Jenkins and Kyle Korver has become popular throughout the NBA. It contains plenty of player movement which keeps the defense on their toes and forces bigs to show and help in different directions off of screens. Check out the play below to see how to free up your shooters.

This play begins with a zipper cut being ran on the right side of the floor. P1 then cuts off of the staggered screen set along the free throw line to free him up for a catch while P3 replaces. P1 then rejects the ball screen while P4 turns around a sets a screen for P2 looking for an open 3 point shot.
